You probably already know that email marketing can help you grow your business through relationship building.
With so many email automation providers, which one do you choose to invest your time and money into?
In this ConvertKit review, I’ll show you the ins and outs of how it works to help you succeed as a blogger.
What is ConvertKit?
ConvertKit is an email service designed for bloggers. With its simple to use interface, you can create lead opt-in forms and email autoresponder series using powerful automation and tagging features.
Seeing the power of email marketing, successful blogger Nathan Barry founded ConvertKit to give you the best software to better serve your target audience.
Using a subscriber-centric model, you won’t see email lists in ConvertKit like other email services such as AWeber.
It took me a minute to understand it but when I did, I was pretty excited!
Why?
In a subscriber-centric model, each subscriber gets counted just one time in your account regardless of how many “sequences” they subscribe to [or forms they opt-into.]
Contrast that with a list-centric email autoresponder where each subscriber is counted multiple times depending on how many lists they subscribe to.
Here’s the deal.
Let’s say you have 5 different ebooks that a person can subscribe to and download. That means the subscriber would be counted as 5 in a list-centric model and you would pay for 5 subscribers, not one.
In ConvertKit, that person can subscribe to 5 different ebook downloads and be counted just one time.
It’s more cost effective if people subscribe to multiple opt-ins on your blog.
Let’s dig into this ConvertKit review with the reasons why it’s the best email marketing service for bloggers.
This is what ConvertKit Opt-in Forms and Landing Pages look like
The forms and landing pages provided by ConvertKit are elegant templates that you can start with.
You can fully customize opt-in forms in a number of ways as provided by Convert Kit’s comprehensive tutorials.
Choose from 3 form templates and 4 landing pages.
Each of the templates is editable, although the elements cannot be moved around. I love the simplicity of the form templates and the fact that they are not outdated as we’ve seen in AWeber.
The landing pages are hosted by ConvertKit although you can use a WordPress plugin to host them on your own blog domain.
You get a nice selection of four customizable ConvertKit landing page templates with all the elements you need to incentivize your blog visitors to subscribe.
Choose from Single Opt-in or Double Opt In
This ConvertKit review would not be complete without mentioning this amazing feature! You can choose to auto confirm new subscribers or confirm they want to be on your list. Either way, ConvertKit gives you easy options for both.
Either way, you can fully customize your message!
ConvertKit’s Single Opt-in
The single opt-in option is a time saver, especially when you send a downloadable file to your new subscriber.
Here’s how that works:
- Someone opts into your list in exchange for a downloadable ebook.
- The first email they receive automatically confirms them as a subscriber and includes a button link for them to download the ebook right from the email.
Your subscribers don’t need to take an extra step and start getting your emails right away! Another thing I like about Convert Kit’s single optin is it eliminates the problem of people who forget to confirm their subscription.
ConvertKit’s Double Opt-in
With a Double Opt-In, your subscribers will receive an email asking them to confirm they want to be on your email list. It looks like this in the ConvertKit setup:

ConvertKit Integrates with Other Service
Another big plus is the number of services that ConvertKit integrates with. You can connect it to 30 different tools, including ClickFunnels, ThriveLeads, OptinMonster and Thinkific.
If you can find the service you need, you can also use Zapier to connect with hundreds of services.
ConvertKit Automation Features
With powerful automation features, ConvertKit stands above the rest with tools that are easy to use.
Especially suited for blogger, ConvertKit’s automation can help you in a number of ways:
- Create automated funnels
- Easily set up rules that the application follows to email your subscribers
- Customize your subscriber’s path based on their actions
- Determine what is next for your subscriber
- Send targeted content to the right people at the right time
- Segment your audience based on their customer journey
When you segment your email lists, you can send targeted emails to those people who will most likely want to see it. This helps you to increase conversion rates.
With 8 trigger and 6 actions, ConvertKit offers powerful email automations.
Triggers are events that begin a specific rule. The 7 triggers in ConvertKit are:
- Subscribe to a sequence
- Subscribe to a form
- Completes a sequence
- Clicks a link
- Tag added
- Tag removed
- Purchases a product
You can choose what must happen before a specific automated action can occur.
Actions occur after a trigger. The 6 actions that you can automate in ConvertKit are as follows:
- Subscribe to a sequence
- Unsubscribe from a sequence
- Subscribe to a form
- Unsubscribe to a form
- Add tag
- Remove tag
Automation is a huge time saver for you and help you optimize your emails with these powerful features.
ConvertKit Pricing
ConvertKit pricing is based on the number of subscribers, period.
Remember I mentioned that some email autoresponder services are based on lists where you a billed for the same subscriber multiple times if they are subscribed to multiple lists.
The advantage of ConvertKit pricing is that you are billed per subscriber regardless of how many sequences they are in. That is a huge money saver right there.
Pricing Based on Subscribers
0 to 1K: $29 per month
1K to 3K: $49 per month
3K to 5K: $79 per month
Their price is very fair considering the incredible ConvertKit features!
Final Thoughts
I hope this ConvertKit review helped you see the full advantages of using this email service. It’s definitely a forward thinking company and I love that it’s features are designed with bloggers in mind.
Managing your email lists can often be time consuming but ConvertKit’s automation rules make it easy to do.
