Have you ever experienced a big setback or felt too overwhelmed to keep going? No matter what, the most important thing is to keep moving forward.
I get how it feels to be overwhelmed. Recently I encountered some challenges in my life that just crushed me. It was difficult to pick myself up and stay motivated.
I just wanted to crawl into a corner and not think about the situation that was facing me.
I let myself have a pity party and then got to work to overcome those challenges.
Here are three ways that you can use to stay motivated even when the challenges in life get you down.
1 – Meditate to Stay Motivated
If you need some inspiration to keep moving forward, meditation is a great way to start.
I know you are picturing sitting still with your legs crossed staring into space. But meditation is much more than that.
It’s really about being mindful and present and can help you align your spiritual and physical self.
Mediation is especially helpful when you feel too overwhelmed to move forward. Our mind gets so full of clutter it’s difficult to get motivated with all that.
Getting a fresh perspective and renewing your mind really helps. It’s really a matter of changing your mindset to be more motivating and inspiring so you can get things done.
I am not one to sit still so I do walking or running meditations. It’s wonderful to go for a quiet walk, especially in nature. It gives my mind a chance to breathe and clear out the clutter so I can think.
I highly recommend meditation as a step to keep moving forward.
One of my favorite authors on mindfulness, Thich Nhat Hanh, wrote a wonderful book called, Walking Meditation: Peace is Every Step. It Turns the Endless Path to Joy.
I recommend that you read it. It just may help change your life in ways that are unexpected.
2 – Consume Inspiring Content Daily
When you are feeling down or overwhelmed, it’s easy to slip into a life of binge watching TV shows or movies. But that won’t help you to move forward!
With so much content available online, you will be better served by finding inspiring blog content, videos, books and podcasts.
Imagine how much of a better place you will be if you absorb content that helps to motivate you! That is one of the ways to keep moving forward.
Earl Nightingale said, “you become what you think about all day long.” If you binge on mindless entertainment, that won’t give you much inspiration or motivation. What will fill your daily thoughts?
But if you binge on content that helps you move forward and create a powerful mindset, you’ll be in a much better position.
Here are some books that can help you stay motivated and keep moving forward.
- How to Think Bigger: Aim Higher, Get More Motivated, and Accomplish Big Things by Martin Meadows
- Self-Discipline: How to Develop the Mindset, Mental Toughness and Self-Discipline of a U.S. Navy SEAL by Dominic Mann
- The Compound Effect: Jumpstart Your Income, Your Life, Your Success By Darren Hardy
- My Philosophy for Successful Living By Jim Rohn
- The Book of Freedom: A 30-Day Blueprint to Get Motivated, Build Unshakeable Confidence, and Love Yourself By Noam Lightstone
- Motivation in 7 Simple Steps By Marta Tuchowska
3 – Take it One Step at a Time
When you feel overwhelmed, it’s difficult to get anything done. The entire end goal is often so big that you don’t where to start or it just seems like too much to deal with.
Whatever you are dealing with, break it down into small steps that are doable. Then focus on one step at a time.
That’s exactly what I had to do with my situation. Once I broke down the steps, I was able to get through the challenges by checking each item off my list.
What a great feeling when you see how far you’ve come. That in itself will help motivate you to keep moving forward!
Conclusion
It’s no fun to feel so overwhelmed that you cannot move forward. Do some meditation to clear your mind and stay positive. Read content that helps to inspire you to move forward!
Finally, take it one step at a time. No matter what, you still need to accomplish the goal. Instead of resisting and getting down, push through in little steps.
